This means creating a network of land that’s protected and improved for the benefit of nature. We provide advice, training and funding that empowers landowners, Parish and Neighbourhood Councils, community and youth groups and our own volunteers to develop local wildlife hotspots.
We collaborate with public bodies and other environmental charities to feed into the bigger picture of nature recovery in Sussex.
Where we’re working
Our three focus areas
We are helping to connect natural habitats in the Horsham Ring to existing hotspots such as St Leonard’s Forest – part of the High Weald National Landscape.
Linking the Arun Valley with the South Downs, the Pulborough to Storrington corridor passes through important wildlife habitats, including RSPB Pulborough Brooks and several National Trust nature reserves.
The River Adur sweeps diagonally across the District, including through the Knepp Wildland Estate and extensive wetland at Bramber Brooks, owned by Horsham District Council.

The natural world underpins our own health and wellbeing, and it’s in trouble. Restoring wild spaces and declining species improves natural flood management, water quality, crop pollination and carbon sequestration, which will help our local communities adapt to climate change.

Volunteer your time to carry out hands-on outdoor tasks such as coppicing, hedge laying, invasive species removal and leaky dam building. Learn new skills and see the benefits to your local area.

Apply for a Nature Recovery Award
Some projects need a little financial support to succeed. We grant up to £5,000 for on-the-ground works that create, enhance, enlarge or connect habitats.
