Become a Wilder Community Champion

Our Wilder Community Champion roles are an opportunity for people to become a champion for their local community. This could be either through learning valuable skills around managing and monitoring a local green space or getting involved in campaigning to protect your local sites and the species that call it home.

We currently offer two Champion roles: Wilder Community Leader and Wilder Community Campaigner. To find out more about these roles, the training, networking and support we offer please click on the links below.

Wilder Community Champion roles

Wilder Community Leader

Do you have a local greenspace that you are improving for wildlife? Our Wilder Community Leader programme can help you organise and run successful and enjoyable conservation tasks with other members of your community.

Wilder Community Leaders will be offered the opportunity to join a network of leaders to share skills, ideas and experiences. This network will be hosted by Sussex Wildlife Trust. Participants need to be over 18.

The training includes in person training, online training and a practical day at one of our reserves. A full list of training on offer is below.

Training Modules:

1. Engaging the community and other landowners

2. Funding your project

3. Managing risk

4. Practical day on a reserve to try out your new skills

5. Wildlife Ecological surveying for beginners

Sussex Wildlife Trust hosts this group on the Sussex Planning Network for Nature hub – please join the community and sign up for the Wilder Community Campaigners page where you can also find a variety of resources and like minded people.

Wilder Community Campaigners

Our Wilder Community Campaigner is designed to give you the skills and confidence to push for change and protect your local spaces across Sussex. We will provide advice and training so you can develop the most effective techniques to take action for nature.

Wilder Community Campaigners will be offered the opportunity to join the network of Community Campaigners. As a member of the Wilder Community Campaigner Network, you will get the latest information on Sussex Wildlife Trust’s most important campaigns and local wildlife news. You can choose to join us in our campaigns or start your own campaign. Participants need to be over 18.

Our Wilder Community Campaigner Programme is here to guide and support you. We believe that by working together, building strong local movements, and equipping ourselves with the right tools and strategies, we can make a meaningful difference.
