Planning
Broken promises: new planning rules are bad for people and wildlife
It's not nature or development - it's both.
The UK Government promised to protect and restore nature but, less than a year in, new planning changes are set to weaken environmental protections. This is bad for wildlife and people.
We have tried to work with Ministers to highlight gaps for nature in the new Planning and Infrastructure Bill but at every stage our efforts have been ignored. Enough is enough.
With the Planning and Infrastructure Bill returning to Parliament on 9th and 10th June, we urgently need you to:
- Write to your MP to express your concerns and call for part 3 of the Bill to be scrapped. We have set up an e-action with a template letter so it's as easy as possible to have your say - please take action today.
- Share your concerns on social media to make as much noise as possible.
The Sussex Wildlife Trust gives wildlife a voice by...
- Engaging positively with strategic planning processes to make sure documents such as Local Plans include appropriate policies to protect and enhance wildlife.
- Commenting on planning applications where there is potential for significant impacts on wildlife, in particular on our nature reserves and other important wildlife sites.
- Offering advice to people to help them get involved in the planning process and make sure development in their local area is sustainable and protects local wildlife.
