💚 Young People's Month event at Rye Harbour 💚

Mya Bambrick is an award-winning young naturalist, presenter and writer from Sussex who aims to engage young people from different backgrounds with nature. She's currently in the final year of her ecology and wildlife conservation degree, while leading bird tours and walks at Poole Harbour.

Mya will take you on a 2 mile (3 km) guided circular walk around Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, a wetland habitat of international importance, particularly for waterbirds. We'll be visiting three bird hides with bench seats.

Spot seasonal birds, including waders, gulls and songbirds, and summer migrants like terns, and get tips from Mya on how to identify them. She'll talk about the lives of birds we see and there'll be plenty of opportunities to ask questions. We recommend bringing binoculars if you have them, although we’ll have some available to borrow.

At the age of 22, Mya is winner of the British Trust for Ornithology's Young Ornithologist Award 2023 and a Youth Representative for the BTO. She has written for Birdwatching Magazine, featured on Radio 4’s Tweet of the Day and created films for Chris Packham and Megan McCubbin's Self-Isolating Bird Club. See her website.

Location: Meet at Rye Harbour Discovery Centre, Rye Harbour, TN31 7FW, see our website for how to find us. Our café will be open from 9.30am serving refreshments and light lunches.

Public transport: The 313 Stagecoach bus travels from Northiam to Rye train station, and on to Rye Harbour village.

Accessibility: Our gently-paced walk will start and finish at Rye Harbour Discovery Centre, a wheelchair-friendly venue, with a step-free entrance ramp. Our toilet facilities include two that are wheelchair accessible, and we will be no more than a mile away from them on the walk. Most of the route is easy for wheelchairs, and the bird hides are accessible.
