With its mosaic of habitats, ranging from wetlands to heathland and saline lagoons to native forest, Sussex plays host to a fantastic array of birdlife.
This popular course is for anyone who wants to learn all about local birds and birdwatching. With 20 sessions, spanning six months, Mike Russell will take you through the seasons, teaching you everything you need to know. This course consists of classroom sessions and weekend fieldtrips to many of the top bird sites in Sussex.
Topics include:
- identification techniques
- habitats and migration
- bird conservation and populations
- birdsong
Mike has spent 30 years sharing his passion and knowledge for birds at Sussex Wildlife Trust. Now retired, he continues to lead wildlife events, both in the UK and abroad, and finds nothing more rewarding than inspiring people to learn more about the wonderful landscapes and wildlife of Sussex.
This course is suitable for beginners and those with a little knowledge. Classroom sessions are based at Woods Mill Nature Reserve, Henfield, BN5 9SD.

Tuesdays (7-9 pm): 14th & 28th January, 11th & 25th February, 11th & 25th March, 8th & 22nd April, (3rd June - 6pm start)
Saturdays: 1st February, 1st March, 22nd March, 12th April, 26th April, 10th May, 10th June
