An Introduction to Birdwatching - Rye Harbour (13/11/24) Wednesday, 13th November 2024 10:15 AM - 1:30 PM

*We have unfortunately had to cancel this event due to unforeseen circumstances*

Leader: James Duncan

Famous for its magnificent bird life, Over 280 species have been recorded at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. Many breed here and others are migrants, stopping to refuel during epic flight journeys. There will no doubt be many birds to see and hear on our walk, but do you know what they are?

Baffled by birds of prey? Confused by crows? Flummoxed by finches? Then this is the event for you! James Duncan, our expert birder, will walk you through wading birds and give guidance on gulls. We'll begin with a short session on how to get the best use out of binoculars for sharper, clearer viewing. Then join us for a circular walk of approximately 2 miles (3km) as we visit a few of the bird hides to get excellent views of seabirds, ducks and a whole lot more.

This event is aimed at beginners, there'll be plenty of opportunities to ask questions on our walk. No previous knowledge or experience is necessary. Binoculars are highly recommended, though we may have a few pairs available on the day.

Location: Meet at Rye Harbour Discovery Centre, Rye Harbour, TN31 7FW, see our website for how to find us.

Accessibility: Our gently-paced walk will start and end at Rye Harbour Discovery Centre, a wheelchair-friendly venue, with a step-free entrance ramp. Toilet facilities include two that are wheelchair accessible, and we will be no more than a mile away from them on the walk. Most of the route is easy for wheelchairs, and the bird hides are accessible. However a section of the walk has some uneven and loose surfaces, making it moderately difficult for manual wheelchairs.
