Fledgling Rangers

Our Fledgling Rangers Programme is an introductory programme available to anyone aged 12-16 who wishes to gain their first experience of volunteering for a wildlife charity. It is a great opportunity for young people to take action for wildlife in Sussex.

Our Fledgling Rangers programme for 2026 finished in April - it was fully subscribed. The programme for 2027 will run from January to April, information will be available here from November 2026.

As an example of the sort of thing that is included, the 2026 programme can be seen below:

4 x 3 hour practical conservation tasks starting from Woods Mill Nature Reserve BN5 9SD - this is difficult to access by public transport, so you will need to be able to get a lift to the session.

  • For 2026 these sessions will take place on:
    • 10:00 - 13:00 Saturday 24th January 2026
    • 10:00 - 13:00 Thursday 19th February 2026
    • 10:00 - 13:00 Saturday 21st March 2026
    • 10:00 - 13:00 Thursday 9th April 2026
  • You do not need to have any prior experience, all training will be provided

N.B. If you wish to use this for the volunteering section of the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award you will need to check with your Duke of Edinburgh Award Supervisor to check that this programme meets the requirements.
