Are you a young person aged between 16-25 years old, with a love for capturing wildlife on film? If so, how would you like to see your work shown at the Kino cinema in Rye?

Excited? Then why not enter our first ever 'Discover Rye Harbour: Young Wildlife Filmmakers competition'? It’s more important now than ever that we engage as many people as possible with our natural world. Film is a great way to connect with different audiences, especially the general public - you just have to think of the impact of David Attenborough’s Planet Earth.

Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is home to a variety of stunning species and there are many stories to be told. Over the next few months, Golden Plover will gather and twinkle in the sunlight, the odd Spoonbill may be seen wading with its impressive bill, and the coconut-scented yellow Gorse will add some vibrancy. The nature reserve is accessible to all, with wide paths and several hides dotted across the site. It also boasts the Discovery Centre; a space that is open daily with a café, shop and exhibition space. That’s why we’ve chosen it as the location for this competition.

So what's needed?

We're asking for you to produce a short film that's a maximum of three minutes in length. It needs to be at least full HD and submitted in mp4 format. Other than that, the only brief is to capture the amazing wildlife Rye Harbour Nature Reserve has to offer – it could be about one of your favourite species or a more general reflection of the birdlife. You can include voiceovers, spoken pieces to camera, music and anything else that helps bring your idea to life. Be imaginative! We just ask that you ensure the wildlife is always respected by keeping your distance.

Over the competition period we will be running a guided walk to show you the best places to see and film wildlife on the reserve. Keep an eye on our What’s On page.
