We are excited to announce the brand new Discover Rye Harbour Young Wildlife Filmmakers Competition.
Sussex Wildlife Trust’s Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is an amazing place for wildlife and people. It’s home to an array of stunning species like Golden Plover, Short-eared Owl, Yellow Horned-poppy and Bearded Tit. It’s also a hotspot for nature enthusiasts and the public alike, with accessible paths and hides. The competition aims to give young people aged 16-25 a chance to use their skills to capture wildlife at the reserve using film and be in with the chance of winning some fantastic prizes.
- Open to 16–25-year-olds
- Opens 8 January until 29 February 2024
- Winners announced at the end of March 2024
- Judges are Barry Yates, Lou Gerring and Leigh Shine
- Film a maximum of three minutes

Guided walks for inspiration
Two guided walks will be on offer throughout the competition period, offering a chance to find out more about the reserve’s wildlife and the best places to film it.

Film Competition Brief
To capture the amazing wildlife Rye Harbour Nature Reserve has to offer – it can be about one species, or multiple. The rest is up to you! Ensure the wildlife is always respected by keeping your distance. Film should be a maximum of three minutes and the entrant must be able to upload the entry to YouTube.
