Pevensey Levels Wetland Restoration Project update
Charlotte Pestell
Nature Recovery Officer - Nature Reserves
We're thrilled to share exciting news about the progress of the Pevensey Levels Wetland Restoration Project.

The groundworks are now complete, and the results are incredible:
- 3km of winding, wiggly ditches dug
- 30 tennis courts' worth of new wetland habitat created
- 15 football pitches' worth of re-flooded wetland restored
And nature is already responding in spectacular fashion! Flocks of Lapwings have been spotted enjoying the new pools and scrapes, alongside ducks, geese, and even majestic Marsh Harriers soaring above.

This project is a significant step toward revitalizing this vital marshland, supporting biodiversity, and providing critical habitats for declining wetland species. It's also a win for climate resilience, improving flood defences and storing carbon naturally.
A huge thank you to the farmers, landowners, and local stakeholders who have collaborated with us to make this possible. Together, we’re ensuring a brighter future for wildlife and the environment on the Pevensey Levels.
Keep an eye out for updates as the habitat continues to flourish!
