RESCHEDULED FROM 6TH AUGUST WHICH WAS CANCELLED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER
Tutor: Michael Blencowe
The chalk downs of Sussex are famed for their diversity of butterflies. They are one of the best places in Britain to see many of our iconic species such as the Adonis Blue and Chalk Hill Blue as well as other chalk grassland specialists including Silver-spotted Skipper and Dark Green Fritillary.
This course will give you an introduction to the butterflies that can be found in this landscape. In a special online Zoom presentation (evening, Thursday 3 August) we’ll look at the various species that can be found here focusing on their identification, ecology, habitats and where to find them in Sussex.
Then, a few days later on Sunday 6 August, we’ll take our new knowledge out into the field and explore Anchor Bottom and other downland sites above Upper Beeding. Here we’ll undertake a circular walk from Upper Beeding up along the Bostal Path and down through the chalk grassland coombe of Anchor Bottom. A circular walk of approx. 3 miles.
The course is aimed at beginners and no previous knowledge is required.
Location: Meet under the Upper Beeding village sign opposite Esso Garage. Nearest postcode BN44 3TQ
