Marine Art Afternoon Workshop Brighton (15/04/2023)

Wild Coast Sussex is hosting a creative art workshop inspired by our local marine life. Using washed up kelp and ghost gear we'll be experimenting with different printmaking techniques such as lino, collagraph and found object printing. In the second half of the workshop we'll be experimenting with different textile techniques to create a collaborative hanging piece. These textile techniques will include weaving and embroidery.

Some of the artwork created will be shown at our upcoming exhibition! You will also have the chance to keep a few of the prints and drawings created.

ON THE DAY

11:45 - 12:00 - Meet us in the white room workshop at the Phoenix Arts space. This is located along the ground floor corridor.

The ground floor is wheelchair accessible, with entry via a ramp to the left of the main entrance. The entire ground floor is level apart from a slight ramp leading into the Main Gallery.

12:00 - 13:20– Printmaking and drawing workshop!

We will go through the different techniques available. These will include collagraph, lino and found object printmaking. You can then experiment and create some seaweed inspired 2d pieces!

We will supply all equipment needed for these activities - we just recommend you wear suitable clothing as it may be a little messy.

13:20 - 13:40 – Break!

We will provide drinks and snacks, however you're welcome to bring your own food if you like.

13:40 - 15:30 - Textile workshop!

This part of the workshop will involve experimenting with different mediums and found beach materials. We will work together to form a textile wall hanging. This will contain elements of weaving and stitch!

What to bring:

• Wear clothing that you won't mind getting a little messy.
• Snacks (if you want)

Allergies/ dietary requirements: Let us know if you have allergies or requirements when you sign up to this event. We also ask that if you bring you're own food that it doesn't contain peanuts.

Getting here:

We will be meeting between 11:45-12:00 in the white room workshop space at Phoenix Arts. This is located along the ground floor corridor.

Walking: Phoenix Art Space is an approximately 10 minute walk from the city centre, and located close to London Road shops and the Level public park. It is opposite St Peters Church

Cycling: There are a large number of cycle stands near the Level, opposite Phoenix.

Bus: Phoenix is on the main bus routes, 5, 5A, 5B, 21, 21A, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 46, 48, 49, 50, N25. For up-to-date information on bus routes and times visit www.buses.co.uk

Train: Brighton station is just 10 minutes’ walk away. Turn left out of the main station. Continue downhill along Trafalgar Street, cross the main roads passing in front of St Peter’s Church, then turn left. Phoenix will be on the right, in front of the traffic lights.

Car: The nearest multi storey parking is London Road Car Park. There are a limited number of bookable parking spaces behind Phoenix. www.yourparkingspace.co.uk. There is one blue badge space available directly behind the Phoenix building.

Accessibility:

1. There is a ramp to the main entrance on the left hand side when facing the building which can be seen in the image below.

2. The white room workshop space is located on the ground floor corridor. An image of the workshop can also be seen below, this will also contain tables and chairs. There will be someone situated at the reception desk if you require any assistance.
