Visit our pillboxes and learn about their role in the 1940 plans to defeat the threatened German invasion (Operation Sea Lion). Find out how the Vickers machine gun was central to the harbour defences and see an example set up as it would have been to defend the coastline in Britain's finest hour.

Peter Hibbs of Sussex Military Research will deliver a talk on the Second World War Rye Sector defences at 2pm in the Discovery Centre The Rye Harbour History Group activities have uncovered new evidence of how this vulnerable part of the coast was to be defended in Britain's finest hour.
