Wild Coast Sussex is shaking things up a bit by adding a book swap to the traditional beach clean! Come to our beach clean and book swap for a wholesome evening on the beach with fellow book lovers. Summer is great for reading on the beach, so join us to spend the evening by the ocean, meet people, get new books, and contribute to a circular economy.

ON THE DAY
17:45-18:00 – Meet for the beach clean and drop off books! Meet at the beach opposite the Brighton Sailing Club, next to the Music Hall.
We’ll be welcoming attendees to the beach clean and taking the books to be organised. Attendees will be given tokens when the books are taken. One token per book, with a maximum of five books to give or take away.
You can access the meeting point via ramp or stairs, and the beach has a step but there are ways around (please see photos at the end).
18:00-19:15 – Beach clean!
We will brief everyone on safety and offer fun added options, including recording the litter you collect and doing a mermaid's purse hunt (that's hunting for shark and ray egg cases!). Whatever type of beach clean you chose, it will help keep our beaches clean and tidy! At 19:15, we will weigh up all the litter and compare unusual finds.
We will supply all equipment needed for a beach clean - we just need you to wear suitable footwear and clothing. We recommend bringing a bottle of water.
19:15 – 20:30 – Book swap! This is a cosy, relaxed time to exchange and talk about books
The book swap will be very relaxed, and this will be an opportunity to pass around the books, talk about them. Maybe you can leave a little paper note saying what you enjoyed about your book!
Attendees are welcome to bring snacks. Beware the seagulls.
What to bring:
