Webinar: The Barn Owl. An insight into its conservation in Sussex. Wednesday, 30th March 2022 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

This online talk has been organised by Sussex Ornithological Society (SOS).

The Barn Owl has suffered significantly at the hands of nest site loss, habitat loss, pesticides and technology changes. As a result, numbers have fallen nationally from 12,000 pairs (Blaker 1933) to 4,000 pairs (BTO 1990). Sussex has been impacted much the same as other UK counties.

The current UK population estimate is 5,000 pairs.

The Sussex Barn Owl Study Group, working with local nature societies and authorities are actively surveying, monitoring, ringing birds and supporting landowners with advice to gain an understanding of the Barn Owl's status in Sussex.

Tonight’s presentation gives an insight into the group’s activities and achievements, why there has been a slight recovery in numbers and what can be done to increase recovery.

This is a free event but registration is essential. Book Here

Booking for SOS events is undertaken through Eventbrite.

Please note these talks start half an hour earlier than Sussex Wildlife Trust talks.
