Leader: James Duncan
Join us to explore Malling Down, an exceptional example of rare chalk grassland found across the South Downs. These unique meadows are one of the richest habitats for flora but are unfortunately in huge decline. The vast diversity of plants support thriving insect populations, including the spectacular Adonis Blue Butterfly. We’ll take a circular walk of around 4km, exploring the reserve to learn how this landscape has evolved and to look for the wildlife that occupies this fascinating habitat.
This walk includes some steep slopes, so we recommend you bring water to drink. Please dress appropriately for the weather conditions, including suitable footwear and a waterproof, or suncream if applicable.
PLEASE NOTE: Meet in the small car park at the top of Mill Road, Lewes, by the Sussex Wildlife Trust information board.
There is limited car parking available in the car park, or alternatively in Mill Road itself:
Booking essential as places are limited.
