Sussex Wildlife Trust is working hard for nature at this challenging time but we can only do so with your support.

West Wittering to Itchenor - Circular Walk: Everyone Welcome! (13/06/2020) CANCELLED Saturday, 13th June 2020 9:45 AM - 3:30 PM

Cancelled until further notice. Thank you for your understanding.

Meet at the Old House At Home Pub, Cakeham Road (B 2179), West Wittering PO20 8AD (Explorer Map 120: SZ 779984) for a 9.45 departure.

The pub has a very big car park but unfortunately will not be open for coffees or use of facilities. However, there are public toilets just across the road and a little café that will be open for coffee from 9.00.

We need to pre order lunch and a menu will be made available to you two weeks prior to the walk. These details will be amended appropriately.

With lovely views across the water to Bosham and with the South Downs as a backdrop, this is a gentle walk of under 5 miles. We will go from the pub down to the shoreline and past salt marsh, which, with the tide partially out, should be particularly colourful. We then continue through fields and alongside hedgerows, sometimes passing along the Salterns Way. The Salterns Way is an accessible pathway for cyclists and wheelchairs so, as you can imagine, the walk is mainly flat and has only one, walk-through low stile to manoeuvre

The afternoon offers a 2 mile walk through the pretty village of West Wittering down to the shore line and out to the National Trust ‘East Head Beach’. Here we will see shifting sand dunes, salt marsh and flowing tides. West Wittering is a notoriously windy place so, despite this being a June walk, please check out the weather forecast and prepare for a blustery day!

You are welcome to come on either or both of the walks.

Both walks are pretty level and easy, but after rain the woodland can be muddy and so boots are recommended.
