Selwyns Wood, Heathfield - Wildlife Walk (04/05/2020) CANCELLED Monday, 4th May 2020 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM

This event has been cancelled. Thank you for your understanding.

Leader:  James Duncan

Join us to explore Selwyns Wood, a mixed semi-natural woodland lying close to the town of Heathfield. This High Weald reserve is nestled in a beautiful south-facing valley and has a trio of streams, one of which has developed into a unique Ghyll stream, a fascinating geological feature of this part of Sussex. The isolation and enclosed nature of Ghyll’s make them typically rich in moisture loving plant species. At this time of year the woodland should be bursting with wildflowers, ensuring plenty of nectar sources for a variety of invertebrate life, whilst a range of woodland birds will be singing to mark their spring territories. We’ll take a circular walk of around 3km, exploring the reserve to learn about the variety of wildlife present.

Selwyns Wood is one mile south of Cross-in-hand and two miles west of Heathfield. Access to this reserve is marked by a Wildlife Trust sign at the entrance to a track off Fir Grove Road, next to a house called White Lodge.

PLEASE NOTE: There is a small car park on site and the nearest postcode is TN21 0QN
