An Introduction to Wildlife Surveying - Henfield (03/08/2019) Saturday, 3rd August 2019 4:00 PM - 10:00 PM
With so many species of wildlife in decline monitoring our local wildlife has never been more crucial – especially when faced with threats from climate change, development and habitat loss.
This new course gives you a unique opportunity to learn about the various methods and equipment that are used to survey a range of wildlife groups. The course will include a series of ‘taster sessions’ on how to survey birds, butterflies, bats, reptiles, moths, small mammals, hedgehogs and other wildlife. The course is aimed at people who would like to get more involved with surveying wildlife as a hobby, career or would just like to survey wildlife in their garden or local area.
The course will include a series of ‘taster sessions’ where you will be able to familiarise yourself with survey methodology, techniques and equipment. It is hoped that this will inspire you to contact your local recording groups and start surveying. Full details of local monitoring schemes and contacts will be given and there will be a visit to the Sussex Biodiversity Records Centre which will include a short presentation about their work.
The course to will include:
- How to establish and walk a butterfly transect.
