Sussex Wildlife Trust is working hard for nature at this challenging time but we can only do so with your support.

Walk - Everyone Welcome (11/05/2019) Saturday, 11th May 2019 9:45 AM - 3:30 PM

The Walks are led and guided for between 3 and 5 miles in the morning, with an optional, shorter walk after lunch. The pace is steady and allows time to stop and enjoy the wildlife. Sturdy walking boots and outdoor clothing is recommended.

Do join us for what promises to be a lovely Sussex walk through farmland, woods and up and down gentle hills.

Meet at the Star Inn Waldron (Explorer Map 123; TQ550193: Whitehouse Lane, Waldron, Heathfield, TN21 0RA for a prompt 9.45 start. The car park is quite small but the proprietor has said that, if the weather is fine, they will open up the overspill grass car park behind the pub. Failing that, there is plenty of space on the road. Before we start, we will be able to use the facilities but there is unlikely to be any coffee available. Lunches will need to be pre-ordered the week beforehand – details will appear here in due course.

The morning walk is less than five miles and takes us through the grounds of All Saints Church Waldron, alongside Court and Hawkhurst Common Woods, near some lovely farms, (watch out for the free-range hens!) and past Blackdown and Butlett’s Woods. There are two easy stiles and a little bit of road walking.

The afternoon stroll is a short drive away. We will be walking around the SWT Selwyns Wood Nature Reserve. The Reserve car park is very small so we suggest leaving some cars at the pub and doubling up to taxi walkers to Selwyns Wood. The reserve is not large but home to a variety of birds.
