Walk - Everyone Welcome (09/02/2019) Saturday, 9th February 2019 9:45 AM - 3:30 PM

Meet in good time for a 9.45 departure from the Abergavenny Arms, Rodmell (BN7 3EZ) car park (Explorer Map 122: TQ 427059). If travelling south from Lewes on the Newhaven Road, as soon as you see the sign for Rodmell, slow down and be prepared to turn left almost immediately into the car park – the turning is far from obvious. The pub is on the left-hand side of the road as well – not as indicated on the map.

The publicans have kindly agreed to open up from 9.00 so that we can use the facilities and have tea/coffee before leaving. Lunch will be pre-ordered then.

Our morning walk is just three miles involving a very gentle climb up to the South Downs Way. Given reasonable weather, the views are consistently superb. We return to Rodmell and will visit the lovely church and look at the very special sundial in the churchyard. Lunch will be at the Abergavenny Arms from 12.30.

We should leave the pub around 14.00 and make a very short drive further down the Newhaven Road to Piddinghoe Church (TQ 435032). We will look at this delightful church with its unusual round tower and weather vane. Once again, the churchyard has interest – on this occasion it’s the wonderful display of snowdrops which attract visitors from far afield. We will then walk along the River Ouse and hope to see a good variety of birds on the river, in the shrubs and trees as well as on a large lake. The afternoon walk will be no more than one mile long

Walk led by Janet, Ro & Terry (01798 813206 or 07720 891880 on the day)
