Sussex Wildlife Trust is working hard for nature at this challenging time but we can only do so with your support.

Walk - Everyone Welcome (15/09/18) Saturday, 15th September 2018 9:45 AM - 3:30 PM

Walk: Everyone Welcome

The morning walk is through Petworth Park. We will meet at the North car park which is off the A283 (Explorer Map 133: SU 966 238). This is a National Trust Car Park which makes a £3 fixed charge to non-members. (NT members please ensure that you are displaying your current NT membership car sticker). The walk commences at 9:45.

The morning walk through the park takes in fantastic views across the Sussex countryside towards the South Downs and includes features such as the Lower Pond, designed by Capability Brown, and the ‘Turner View’ from where the artist painted ‘The Dewey Morning’ and of course the fallow deer. The walk is approximately three and a half miles of gently undulating parkland. The toilet facilities at the main entrance to the park will not be open by 9:45: the facilities in the public car park in the centre of Petworth are the nearest available. We will order our food before leaving on the morning walk - copies of the menu will be available on the day, including any specials. The menu can also be viewed on the pub’s website:

We will return to the car park about 12:30 from where we will take a short (three miles) drive for lunch at The Stag Inn at Piper’s Lane, Kirdford Road, Balls Cross. GU28 9JP (Explorer Map 133: SU 986 262). Lunch is planned for 12:45/13:00.

The afternoon walk goes south west from the Inn through woods and farmland where we hope to see some interesting wildlife. Parts of the afternoon route may be muddy should the walk take place after wet weather. We return to the Inn after a walk of approximately two and a half miles.

You are welcome to join us for either or both of the walks.
