Walk - Everyone Welcome (12/05/18) Saturday, 12th May 2018 9:45 AM - 3:30 PM

Meet in good time for a 9.45 departure from the Three Horseshoes, Elsted, Midhurst, GU29 0YJ (Explorer Map 120 SU 818197). If travelling west along the A272 from Midhurst, after two miles turn left on a road signposted Elsted and Harting. Continue for three miles and the pub is on the left at the top of a tree lined hill as you enter the village. Turn into the car park just past the pub. The pub will open at 9.15 so that food can be pre-ordered. Toilet facilities are also available.

The morning walk is circular and just over four miles long with three stiles. We cross fields, then ascend through woods to the South Downs Way which we follow to provide a gentle climb to the top of Beacon Hill. Given clear weather, this provides a spectacular 360-degree view. We then follow the South Downs Way east and descend, again through woods, to Treyford returning via minor roads and fields to the pub. We aim to be back for lunch at 13.00.

The circular afternoon walk is three miles long over flat ground at the base of the South Downs. We pass through farmland to Didling and visit the charming 'Shepherds Church' which is set apart from the hamlet. We return to the pub via a minor road to Treyford where there is a lovely Manor House and the remains of two churches.
