Walk - Everyone Welcome - South Downs (13/01/18) Saturday, 13th January 2018 9:45 AM - 3:30 PM
Meet in good time for a 9.45 departure from the road next to The Plough at Pyecombe, BN45 7FN, near Brighton (Explorer Map 122: TQ 292124). If travelling south on the A23 (before the A273 merges), take the exit signed to Hassocks A273. Then at the T junction, turn right. After about 100 yards, park at the side of the road close to the pub (which will be on the left-hand side). If travelling north from Brighton on the A23, take the exit signed to Hassocks A273. Then take the left turn towards Pyecombe. Follow the road round a bend, and park at the side of the road close to the pub (which will be on the right-hand side).
There will be no access to facilities prior to the walk. We will need to pre – order lunch. See the Restaurant and Bar menus on the pub’s website (www.theploughpyecombe.co.uk).
The morning walk is around four miles. As the walk is mainly on bridleways, there are only two stiles. We will walk around Wolstonbury Hill, and then up a short steep slope to the top, from where we should expect good views in all directions (weather permitting). A gentle wooded descent will take us back to the pub around 12:30.
Assuming there is sufficient daylight after lunch, we will take a three mile walk to the Jack and Jill windmills on the South Downs way.
You are welcome to join us for either or both of the walks. We are hopeful of good views on both walks. Being mid-winter, boots or wellingtons are advisable.
Walk led by Sarah and Derek ( 01252 514163 on the days prior to the walk, and 07763 580438 on the day itself).
