Sussex Wildlife Trust is working hard for nature at this challenging time but we can only do so with your support.

Walk - Everyone Welcome (08/10/16) Saturday, 8th October 2016 9:45 AM - 3:00 PM

Harbour Sails and Trails

Meet in good time for a 9.45 departure in the car park of The Ship Inn, West Itchenor, PO20 7AH. (Explorer Map 120 SZ799013). From the A27 take the A286 south, signed to The Witterings, and after about four miles take the B2179 signed to Itchenor. Follow the road to The Ship Inn on your left.

The pub will be open for coffee and use of the facilities from 9.15. Orders for lunch will be taken prior to starting the walk.

Chichester Harbour’s plentiful wildlife and colourful yachting activity form the backdrop to this waterside walk.

The morning walk of around four miles, level and with just one stile, takes us initially north then west past the harbour and across Chaldock Marsh. There should be plenty of time to observe the many birds frequenting Chichester Harbour. We will pass the little Church of St Nicholas before returning, via the east shore, to the pub at about 12.30.

For the afternoon we will retrace our steps along the east shore before walking inland through Itchenor Meadow. This former arable land is being allowed to diversify to provide a better habitat for plants, invertebrates, birds and mammals. The walk is roughly two miles.

You are welcome to come on either or both the morning and afternoon walks.
