Getting to know the Wild Flowers of East Sussex - Chalk Downland Sunday, 26th July 2015 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Venue: Pump Barn, Seven Sisters Country Park, Exceat, nr Seaford, East Sussex, BN25 4AD

Tutor: Sarah McKenzie & Ralph Hobbs

Cost: Members £30, Non-members £42

Content: We start in the Pump Barn with a short presentation on chalk grassland, how the chalk downs were formed and why chalk grassland is so rare.

We then explore the Country and discover the rich diversity of flowering plants that occur on chalk grassland. We spend time looking at each species of wild flower, finding the key features which help with identification.

Many of these species are the food plants for a variety of butterflies which we should see on our walk.

We may encounter other wildlife such as crickets, grasshoppers and birds, which will add to the day’s enjoyment.
