For those who want to learn the basic techniques of woodcarving whilst creating an achievable small relief design. No previous knowledge is required.

We start by looking at other styles of carving and design, looking at plants from the site or brought in by students, then spend a little time drawing out design ideas. We spend the majority of time carving. Generally we work inside or just outside the classroom if the weather is good. You can sit down to work, but it is often easier to stand.

Basic carving techniques will be demonstrated, it will be explained what tools are needed, how to sharpen them, and the stains and finishes needed to complete the work. You will get one to one help. Handouts will be given on supplier details and tools and finishes required.
