Getting to know the Wild Flowers of East Sussex - Saltmarsh and Shingle Vegetation Sunday, 5th July 2015 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Venue: Pump Barn, Seven Sisters Country Park, Exceat, nr Seaford, East Sussex, BN25 4AD
Tutor: Sarah McKenzie & Ralph HobbsCost: Members £30, Non-members £42
Content: We start in the Pump Barn, with a short presentation about saltmarsh and shingle vegetation and how these plants are adapted to such harsh conditions.
We then explore the Country Park looking for a variety of saltmarsh plants along the river valley. We look at the key features that help them survive in saline habitats and which aid us in their identification.
The plants of the shingle ridges on the beach have to endure even more severe conditions and their adaptations are quite surprising.
We will keep our eyes out for birds, butterflies and any other wildlife that may be present, particularly along the strand line.
