Nature, who cares?

Nature, who cares?

Ask your election candidates: Nature, who cares?

The date is set - Thursday 4 July is the next General Election. It’s arguably the most important event of the summer for wildlife, especially given the state of nature, so we want to make sure you can play your part.

We've set up a simple email action to help you contact all your local candidates and send them a personal message about why nature matters to you.

Your email will automatically include some facts and information about the state of nature where you live, and you'll find more details on our constituency pages here.

But most importantly, you can share your own views about why a healthy environment is so important.

Do election candidates really care about nature?

Tell candidates you care - send an email today.

Who cares? We care!

A new poll commissioned by The Wildlife Trusts shows that environmental issues are a key concern for voters:

  • 79% think that nature is important for our well-being and economic prosperity
  • Most people (59%) consider environmental issues to be at least as important as other issues facing the country
  • 39% will vote based on environmental policies offered by candidates

The poll also asked people to identify environmental priorities for the next Government. The top five were:

  1. Ensuring nature is properly protected in our seas (50%)
  2. Halving pollution in rivers from sewage and farming by 2030 (45%)
  3. Upgrading the energy efficiency of homes to tackle fuel poverty and reduce carbon emissions (38%)
  4. Helping farmers reduce emissions and adapt to climate change by embedding adaptation into farm payment schemes (37%)
  5. Providing more money to support nature-friendly farming (37%)

Committing to effective plans for nature and climate can win votes.

But so far, we’re not seeing enough from any candidates to convince us that they’ll act if they’re elected. You can help change this - send an email to your election candidates today.

The poll was conducted by Savanta and commissioned by The Wildlife Trusts: 2,221 UK adults were interviewed between 31st May and 2nd June 2024.
