Meet the team: Sarah Cosgrove, Food & Beverage Assistant Manager
By Laura Ross
Communications Officer
It’s easy to see why the Lime Kiln Café is a hit with visitors to Rye Harbour – a great seasonal menu, with amazing views for starters. There’s also a new member of the team, who will be bringing her catering know-how to the café. We caught up with Sarah to hear how her first few months have been.
Tell us a bit more about yourself
I started my career in office work, mainly based in call centres. I then took a break from work to raise my children and once they started school, I realised I wanted to do something different. I got a job working on big presentations as a catering assistant, which led to a job as a facilities assistant. Unfortunately, during covid, I was made redundant and had some time to consider what I wanted to do next. I have always loved working in the catering industry, so applied for a job at my local garden centre’s restaurant. I was very happy there, but when I spotted the vacancy at Rye Harbour, I came to visit and loved the cafe and its special location. I had never been here before and couldn't believe this was all on my doorstep!
What are you looking forward to most about your role
It’s really nice to be part of a busy, friendly team. I love cooking and it’s great to be involved with coming up with new dishes and cakes for the menu. I’m looking forward to seeing how we can develop this across to use local, seasonal produce.
Has there been a highlight so far?
It was amazing that we were recently awarded a 5* hygiene rating from the local council – you can’t beat that! I’ve also really enjoyed getting to know everyone who works at the Discovery Centre.
Tell us something we may not know about you
I won an ITV competition, which involved me having to go on TV! I got to meet lots of celebrities like Andi Peters, Jeff Brazier and Josie Gibson.
If you were sent to a desert island, what luxury item would you take with you
That would definitely be my garden egg chair, so I could sit, relax and enjoy the view!
