Meet the staff - Helen Rafferty
Helen Rafferty

Helen Rafferty recently joined the Trust as Head of People and Operations. We caught up with her to find out a bit more about her.

Tell us a little about yourself and how you’ve come to be in this role

I live in Sussex and have two young children. We all love being out in nature, especially being by the sea. It is a real privilege to work for Sussex Wildlife Trust as I remember visiting Woods Mill as a child with my family for lovely Sunday walks, so it's lovely to be working here as an adult.

Previous to this role I have worked in People and Culture for international development charities and worked in the UK and overseas. I am motivated by working for organisations with a cause and purpose, which was a key motivating factor to apply for this role.

Tell us a bit about what your job involves

All things 'People' related. I also manage our wonderful Health and Safety and Business Support teams.

How are you finding it so far?

It has been an amazing first month, everyone has been so friendly and welcoming.

What are the parts of your job you find most interesting?

Meeting everyone and getting to know how things work. I am really enjoying ways I can help support Sussex Wildlife Trust to be a great place to work.

What’s a perfect Sunday for you?

A lazy morning, nice lunch followed by a lovely walk somewhere (ideally in the sun).

Tell us something about yourself most people won’t know

I play the saxophone and have been a part of bands, playing gigs locally.
