Meet our staff: Laura Ross
Tell us a bit about yourself
After university I took up a role at Virgin’s head office in the PR team. I then moved across to work in the brand team at Virgin Media. After returning to the south coast and having my first child, I went on to set up my own brand consultancy where I’ve worked with clients from the NHS, autism organisations and Westminster City Council, to name a few.
What attracted you to the role at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve?
I was born down the road, and although I’ve been away for a long time, I love being by the sea. Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is a special place for me as our children have grown up here - I’ve gone from pushing buggies, to watching them whizzing off on their scooters. I am excited to be working for an organisation that wants to make a difference, inspiring and connecting the public with the natural world.
Which part of the role are you most enjoying?
I’m really excited about spreading the word about Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, both to an audience that can visit this special place and also bringing it to life for those living further afield. At a time when everyone's lives are so busy, I believe it's incredibly important to have access to spaces where we can recharge and reconnect with nature.
Tell us something we may not know about you
I have a slight obsession with collecting sea glass and can spend hours searching for that elusive blue piece. I’ve got hundreds of bits now and one day hope to make something beautiful with them all!
If you were sent to a desert island, which luxury item would you take with you?
I’ve always wanted to learn how to play the guitar, so I’d try and perfect that whilst sat around my campfire.
