Meet our Business Members: EcoOctopus
Emma Chaplin catches up with new Business Member Lynda of EcoOctopus
Tell us a bit about EcoOctopus
EcoOctopus is a small business based in Sussex selling unusual and eco-conscious jewellery and textiles.
My work is intended to be rustic and unconventional – something a little different to the norm. Materials include copper stripped from waste electrical cables, home grown herbs and flowers (all from my garden in Sussex) sea glass and recycled silver. Additional materials include bottle top lids, vintage marbles, tin cans, old pieces of pottery and waste plastics. Trash turned into treasure!
Where do you get your inspiration?
Inspiration comes from both the Sussex woodlands and the ocean. I have lived in Sussex all my life, have a real passion for the environment and for small, independent businesses. I am also a keen gardener, growing flowers which I use in my jewellery.
And as a wildlife photographer, I also integrate photos into my work creating recycled cards (with wraps made from plants, not plastic).

What are your favourite products?
My favourite pieces are my newly created sea glass earrings and necklaces. But I also love working with seaweed and have used this in both rings and pendants. Anything that reminds me of and connects me to nature is a winner.

What are the most challenging elements of your work?
The economic crisis, Covid, war. Lots of external factors affect small business folk. But I am proud to say that despite all these pressures, I am still standing tall. I am very grateful for everyone’s support.
Why did you decide to become a Sussex Wildlife Trust Business Member?
I am happiest either swimming in the sea or in the middle of the woods surrounded by birds and trees. My work reflects this as does my partnership with the Sussex Wildlife Trust. I am passionate about establishing strong creative partnerships and working with those that share my love of nature. Together we are stronger.
