Early Bats
After last year's exciting discovery of a Nathusius pipistrelle bat migrating from Latvia to Rye Harbour (click here for details) we thought it would be interesting to monitor bats early in the year. So, since the beginning of March we have been running a bat logger on the reserve and the results have amazed us - SEVEN species of bat were recorded!
Activity was recorded throughout the month, but increasing towards the end of the month. A total of 7 species of bat were recorded including: Nathusius pipistrelle, Common pipistrelle, Soprano pipistrelle, Daubenton’s, Whiskered/Brandts, Noctule, and a Long-eared species. The first Nathusius was recorded on the 7th March with activity increasing from 20th March onwards.
Thank-you to Mountfield Ecology for analysing the recordings.
