During the summer holidays in 2022, the Communities and Wildlife team at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve ran holiday scheme aimed at young people aged 10-16 years old, providing the opportunity to work towards a John Muir Discovery conservation award. This involved five days of practical conservation tasks and activities that enabled young people to make a difference, build relationships whilst exploring and enjoying the variety of habitats at the reserve. For a more detailed overview of the programme, visit a guest blog by two of 2022s participants.

Following the success of this project, the team will be running another John Muir scheme during the Easter holiday 2023, this time aimed at families. The programme will run from Tuesday 11 April to Saturday 15 April, 10am-3pm. Once again, the programme will consist of practical conservation tasks alongside games and creative activities that enable families to make a difference, make friends and make memories. Families must complete the whole programme to gain a Family John Muir Conservation Award.

This is a great opportunity to spend time together outdoors working towards shared goals whilst having a positive impact on the work of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. Families of any shape and size can get involved, including extended family, carers, guardians and foster families.

There will be more John Muir opportunities for young people this summer so watch this space and follow us on social media.
