Nature Reserve Community Volunteer - Rye

Overview of the role:
To be a presence on the nature reserve to help with monitoring and reporting issues, routine checks, minor maintenance and site management tasks. To act as an ambassador for Sussex Wildlife Trust, providing information and guidance to members of the public around the safe and responsible enjoyment of the site for people and wildlife.
Type of tasks you will be involved with:
Key tasks 1. To patrol the nature reserve making observations and checks, carry out light litter picking around the site, and to report issues and concerns to a member of staff. 2. To check the bird watching hides for issues relating to maintenance or inappropriate use, and to clear any rubbish left in hides. Optional tasks depending on experience, skills, knowledge and interests 3. To engage with members of the public to help create positive visitor experience. 4. To record wildlife sightings to provide valuable content for the SWT communications team and site biological records database.
Experience/Skills Required:
Essential: You should have a reasonable level of physical fitness and an interest in being outdoors, people and wildlife, though you do not need to have wildlife expertise. All volunteers will be asked to comply with health and safety regulations. Volunteers must be over 18. Desirable: We are trying to minimise travel, and carbon emissions, so this position is most suited to someone who lives or works in or near Rye Harbour. Flexibility in availability would also be useful.
Days/Times we would like you to be available:
The core hours we are seeking to recruit volunteers to assist us with are Saturdays and Sundays 10:00-12:00, though you would be welcome to cover other times in addition to this. We would provide a rota and accommodate your availability. You’d be welcome to carry out the role individually, or as a pair with someone else if you prefer.
