Conservation Volunteer - as part of a Work Party - Horsham District

Location:
The group works at various locations within the Horsham District - weekdays only.
Overview of the role:
Help carry out vital conservation tasks on various privately or publically owned land holdings within Horsham District with the aim of helping nature recovery and building Nature Recovery Networks. Practical conservation volunteer days. You will need to wear old clothes, suitable footwear, food and drink and plenty of enthusiasm. Tools and training are provided, though for some tasks you may wish to invest in a pair of gardening gloves.
Type of tasks you will be involved with:
Tasks include scrub clearance, removal of non-native species, grassland management, reed cutting, woodland management, fencing, pond creation and building leaky dams (pretending to be beavers).
Experience/Skills Required:
Essential: Volunteers should have a reasonable level of physical fitness and ideally some interest in wildlife and conservation. Experience is not required. All volunteers will be asked to comply with health and safety regulations. Volunteers must be over 18. Desirable: We are trying to minimise travel, and carbon emissions, so this position is most suited to someone who lives or works in or near Horsham District. Flexibility in availability would also be useful.
Days/Times we would like you to be available:
Work parties will take place on weekdays throughout the year usual timings are 10am - 3pm. Dates are variable and depend on landowner demand. A schedule for the work parties (locations and dates) will be provided ahead of time, but you are never expected to attend all of the work party opportunities.

You will learn to perform a wide-variety of practical conservation tasks and help to promote nature recovery in an atmosphere of friendly camaraderie. There might even be biscuits, or cake! Travel expenses where applicable.
