Bumblebee nests in gardens are not common, so your garden must really be a haven for wildlife to have one. There is no need to be scared of bumblebees as they are not at all aggressive and do not swarm. Colonies only last a single summer, so the nest will only be active for a few months and will then disappear. We would always encourage you to leave the nest undisturbed whenever possible and just enjoy the summer buzz of the bumblebees.
If the nest is in a particularly problematic location then there are things you can do. Please contact WildCall, our wildlife advice service for more help. Please note that bumblebees can sting, and are more likely to do so if their nest is disturbed.
