About:

Lugworms are up to 20cm long, about the thickness of your finger, and live in burrows in the sand around the bottom of the beach where they feed on plankton and detritus

How to identify:

<p>When the tide goes out, the coiled ‘casts’ can be found at the mouth of lugworm burrows.</p>

Where:

Found on sandy and muddy shores all round our coasts.

Fantastic facts:

Lugworms are dug up by anglers to be used as bait when fishing at sea.
