About:

A small fish that usually is seen as part of a shoal in seaweeds or seagrass beds.

How to identify:

<p>They can be any colour from red to green. They are very small, only about 6cm. They have a dark spot at the base of the tail.</p>

Where:

Found all around the UK.

Fantastic facts:

Males in breeding condition can be bright red with electric blue spots. The males will guard the egss laid by the females in hollow on the seabed or attached to seaweed.
