About:

The largest swimming crab to be seen in British waters. It is fast moving and can be seen on our rocky shores.

How to identify:

<p>Its body is flattened, making it wider than it is long. Its upper surface is reddy brown and covered in short hairs, giving it a velvety texture. Its eyes are bright red; its sometimes called the ‘devil crab’.</p>

Found all around our shores.

Fantastic facts:

Its back legs are flattened to make them quick swimmers. Extra speed comes in useful when escaping from predators, like cuttlefish.
