About:

A small, white heron about 60cm tall. Feeds on small fish, crayfish and shrimps. Once a very rare visitor from the Mediterranean, Little Egrets are now a common sight around the coasts of southern England and Wales after expanding their range in the late 1980s.

Where:

Found around the coasts and estuaries of England and Wales, more rarely in Scotland and inland.

Fantastic facts:

Little Egrets first nested in the UK on Brownsea Island, Dorset in 1996.
