About:

Found on farmland, wetlands and around the coast. A large, elegant gull, just a little smaller than herring gull. Dark grey above and white below, with a white head (streaky during the winter) and black wing tips with white spots.

How to identify:

<p>Gulls can be very difficult to tell apart, especially immature birds. Adult lesser black-backed gulls are dark grey above with yellowy-orange legs.</p>

Where:

Widespread. Nests around the coast, on cliff tops, roof tops and islands.

Fantastic facts:

Lesser black-backed gulls the nest in northern Europe migrate all the way Africa to spend the winter.
