About:

There are several species of stalked jellyfish found off our coast. These small jellyfish, which live attached to a piece of seaweed or seagrass throughout their lives. They grow up to 5cm in size. Their stinging tentacles which they use to catch food are at the top of their body, positioned on eight arms.

How to identify:

They are funnel shaped and can be red, green or brown.

Where:

On the rocky shore and shallow sublittoral. Attached to seaweed or seagrass.

Fantastic facts:

One species of stalked jellyfish has its stinging cells stored in turquoise coloured warts on its body.
