Aurelia aurita

About:

A transparent jellyfish, ranging from 25 – 40cm across. They drift through the water along with the currents. They feed on plankton and molluscs by drawing them in with their tentacles. Their predators include fish, turtles and seabirds.

How to identify:

<p>Transparent, with four large circles (the gonads) in the centre of the umbrella, usually bright purple.<strong></strong></p>

Where:

Found all around the coasts of Britain.

Fantastic facts:

Jellyfish have no gills or lungs. They breathe by taking in oxygen from the sea through their top layer of skin.
