What you might see

There are always interesting birds to be found on the Levels. During the winter Wigeon and Teal make use of the pools and the occasional Short-eared Owl, Peregrine or Hen Harrier might be seen.

Spring brings the breeding birds such as Lapwing, Redshank, Sedge and Reed Warblers and small numbers of Yellow Wagtail.

Marsh Harrier and Hobby are often seen hunting over the reserve, and Tree Sparrows are visible around their nest boxes. During migration Wheatear, Cuckoo and Whinchat are often seen.

In the ditches, look for Fen Raft Spider, although you are much more likely to spot one of their nursery webs in June or July.

Fantastic plants can be spotted in the ditches such as Flowering-rush, Arrowhead or Greater Spearwort.
