If you dont like spiders in your house (and I dont) try putting dishes of conkers on sills, in corners, on furniture – they look good and the spiders dont like them…. it does work.

I’m a big fan of spiders and love to see these critters going about their business in so many wonderful ways. I’d spend hours as a kid watching them – still do sometimes! It’s sad they get such a bad press.

Steatoda grossa and nobilis love my house. They like to curl up in anything snug. I found one snuggled inside the folded lens cloth in a spectacle case and another amongst some scarves (I always catch them and set them free outside).
Two friends have been bitten in their homes. One had a spider in her jumper and another in her bed. They were both affected to the extent of pain and a general feeling of malaise (enough to seek medical advice). I suppose that if you squash them, then they bite.

I catch spiders in the house with an empty see through food pot with a bamboo cane jammed into the base. I can see they are going in and are not injured and then I put on the lid and put them into my greenhouse where I no longer want pollinators, moths, mosquitoes and other biters.
