Here at Gatwick Greenspace Partnership, we are pleased to announce that our new Assistant People and Wildlife Officer, Tom Simpson, has now joined us at Tilgate Park, Crawley.

Tom Simpson Tom Simpson

Tom (not to be confused with Tom Forward), currently lives in Brighton and formerly worked as a Countryside Warden for Horsham District Council where he was responsible for leading most of Horsham Green Gymís practical tasks and these sessions regularly attracted in excess of 30 volunteers per week. He has now been recruited to help deliver more conservation tasks for volunteers from Gatwick Airport (on the airportís two main conservation areas), as well as assisting us with our other events and activities.

Whilst based in Horsham, Tom attended a Bee Keeping course with the East Sussex Bee Keeping Association and we hope that this knowledge in particular can be put to good use in our area next summer! Prior to working in Horsham, Tom spent some time working for a company in Hereford that specialised in installing natural play equipment made from locally sourced natural materials. Further afield, Tom has also studied traditional farming methods in the Czech Republic and sustainable forestry in Malawi, Africa.

Other skills that he has acquired (and taught to others) over the past few years include dry-stone walling and hedge-laying. In his spare time, Tom enjoys keeping fit by running, cycling and boxing.

For more information about volunteering at Gatwick you can contact Tom by email [email protected] or by calling him directly on 07825 797521.
