For today's DownTown Lewes event we collaborated with the Lewes Junior Film Club to put on a screening of the entomological kid's movie 'Erik and the little book of insects' about a young boy who get's shrunk and meets the bugs in his garden. To get the children in the mood for the movie we started with a bug hunt at Lewes Railway Land.
There was quite a crowd there! About 60 people (big and small) turned up and helped as we turned over logs and leaves and summoned up some earthworms.
We soon amassed quite a collection of bugs - earthworms, snails, slugs, earwigs, centipedes, ladybirds, ground beetles, millipedes and a tiny dark bush cricket.
Then we headed across to the All Saints Church where we had to climb through undergrowth inside the church to get to the cinema
Then we took our seats for the movie itself.
Needless to say I had to leave before the giant spider bit.
Thanks for Carmen Slijpen for organising this great event - and thank to the crowds of people that turned up!
