Tonight's DownTown Lewes event was a bat evening at Southover led by bat expert Tony Hutson.
The group gathered around a chest tomb in the churchyard while we learnt all about our resident Lewes bats. After listening to the calls of local bats we gave out bat detectors and took a stroll into the night.
Around the church we detected common pipistrelles and down Cockshut Lane we found their higher pitched relatives the soprano pipistrelle. From there we explored The Priory ruins and were also kindly granted access to investigate the garden of Anne of Cleeve's house. All in all a nice nocturnal history and wildlife tour. Thank you to all who attended and thanks to Tony for leading the event.
